Guest Speaker - Sara David AM, founder and CEO of Living Child Inc.

Living Child Inc., the charity that Perth Midwife Sara David established in 2012, works in the East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea, with villages in the Karem River system, such as Yamen and Bunam.

Women in these communities are now able to choose when and how many children they have, are able to give birth safely, and know that their children will have every opportunity to grow and thrive.
With the support of Melville Rotary and Willetton’s Interact Club, Living Child Inc. has been able to:
    • train 100 village birth attendants
    • provide 5000 birthing kits
    • train 36 maternity health workers
    • train 100 health workers in contraceptive implants
    • supply 3000 implants to village women
    • establish 25 village care groups that provide education, equipment and resources to improve health, nutrition, sanitation and hygiene.
Last year Applecross Rotary provided funds to Living Child Inc. to manufacture “Tippy Taps”, simple water containers used for hand washing.

According to Sara, hand wishing with soap makes all the difference in reducing maternal and infant sickness and death, something that President Barry stresses every chance he gets with respect to antimicrobial resistance.

Sara also credits Barry with some critical advice when she was considering establishing her charity: Think Large, Start Small, Start NOW!
