V/President's Notes
President Peter is having a 'COVID' break along with PP Kenn Williams.  They were last seen driving together to the Booragoon Rotary meeting last Tuesday evening, where Peter was the guest speaker.  The positive side is that Peter gave his WCE's membership tickets to me and I enjoyed watching an improved performance of the team.

Last Monday was the last ZOOM meeting for Peter and his board before he hands over to Logan.  Some of the items of interest were motions passed to:
  • provide $600 financial underwriting to support the ZONE 1 Comedy for Charity event
  • adopt the recommendations of the Membership Planning Committee that will be presented at tomorrow's meeting by PE Logan
  • donate $2500 to the Rotary Club of Victoria Park for their 'Rwanda Laughter for Yoga' project
  • donate $5000 to the Rotary Foundation
  • provide $1000 vocational award through Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce
Looking forward to hearing from Hamish the final outcome from this year's event.  It was a fantastic response from our members and partners who volunteered for the event roster.  As they say "many hands make light work" and this was certainly the case with the packup and return of the display boards to the Fremantle Men's Shed.  I believe we would have set an all time record and a huge thanks to all involved.

Our guest speaker for last week's meeting was Renee Hillman from APACE Native Gardens & Revegetation. APACE provide a comprehensive revegetation service covering all aspects of natural area management.  Apace Community Gardens are the oldest community garden in Perth and provide seed collection, seed processing and seed storage services that are used by many local governments. Renee gave a passionate and informative presentation and if you click here you can get the audio of her presentation.

Stitches of Hope Sleeping Bags Keep Homeless Warm
For several years now, we have partnered with WA charity Street Connect, to buy sleeping bags for homeless people in WA. Last year over 80 sleeping bags were donated, and many ended up in Mandurah and Bunbury where there was high demand.

“Stitches of Hope” is a registered charity that was established by Swan Rotarians Kay and John Eva. It is based in Cambodia and the sleeping bags are made in a local village, and pay a living wage to the workers. Kay and John get them delivered to WA where they can be purchased for $50, and donated to Street Connect. So your tax-deductible donation through RAWCS sends money to Cambodia for village development, and keeps homeless people warm in WA. Pretty good deal!

We launched the 2022 Appeal a few weeks, and sold 36 sleeping bags. Great start - well done!

Please chat to Ian Fairnie if you’d like to participate.
