Hello Rotarians and Friends,

A busy week as always, with my highlight being an informative session on Respectful Relationships facilitated by our partners, Domestic Violence Support organisation Starick, at Mineral Resources Park, with several West Coast Eagles personnel joining us.

The statistics around Domestic Violence are damning, spanning all walks of life and communities. Our support of Starick and victims of domestic violence is a priority for Applecross Rotary, and I look forward to enacting the key principles of Respectful Relationships in our interactions with the community.

Yours in Rotary,

Tom Atkinson

LESS THAN 4 WEEKS TO GO!! ROTARY WA ACTION DAY APPROACHES.

Excitement is building for the upcoming Rotary WA Action Day on April 13th at The Rise in Maylands, and it will be great to see strong support from Applecross Rotary.

The aim is to showcase Rotary to the public, with a focus on some specific Rotary activities. The day will feature a series of afternoon seminars on how to market Rotary and an International Dinner in the evening. Pre-booking for the Walk, Seminar sessions, and the International Dinner is essential. You can find the booking links below or through the various promotional material currently being circulated.

The Lift the Lid Walk kicks off from The Rise at 8:30 for a 9:00am start, raising funds for pre-teen mental health research. Everyone is welcome to participate.

'Delivering Hope' will be an interactive display highlighting key projects and activities supported by Rotary Western Australia. Among these are Foodbank, Wheelchairs for Kids, Disaster Aid Australia, RAWCS, and Shelterbox, alongside several others.

Applecross Rotary is providing support with some of our club assets and assisting with the bump in/ bump out process. Stay tuned for more details.

It is during a busy time of the year but do plan to get involved if possible.

Any enquiries, happy to answer!

AG Kenn

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS
Lots happening at Applecross Rotary!

1. NEW MEMBERS

Two new ROTARIANS plus a new ASSOCIATE member inducted at last week's BREAKFAST MEETING. A warm welcome to Rotary and the Applecross Rotary family to Marianne Thompson, Brad Franken and Greg Hebble.

President Tom, AG & membership director Kenn, Rotarian Brad Franken, Associate member Greg Hebble and Rotarian Marianne Thompson

2. SPECIAL BIRTHDAYS

President Tom seized Lorri's birthday as a chance to convey our Club's gratitude for her outstanding contributions to Rotary and our Club. Lorri was our FIRST female member who joined in October 2003 and has been an active dedicated member for over 20 years with Applecross Rotary.

In typical Lorri fashion, she baked a cake to honor Dr. Ian Fairnie's 80th birthday.

Guest Speaker:  Jarrad Brown
Jarrad shows the way.

For those who may not know Jarrad, he's been a familiar face at our club's gatherings and events, along with his lovely wife Linda and their adorable baby daughter Mila. Despite their bustling life in Singapore for the past 12 years, their commitment to our community knows no bounds!

But wait, there's more!  Jarrad has been making waves in the realm of social media, leveraging platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram to skyrocket his business's success. In just the past week, he reached an astounding 32,687 people through his posts!

How does he do it? With just 30 minutes a day dedicated to crafting engaging content. Jarrad firmly believes that our club can tap into this powerful tool to connect with potential future members. His advice? Target active volunteers, especially those in the 35-65 age range, who are likely to be on Facebook. Let's give them a reason to join the Applecross Rotary family!

Jarrad's secret sauce? Informative, inspiring, and insightful content that showcases what Rotary and our club are all about. And authenticity is key—our own members should take center stage in front of the camera, sharing our club's story in short, impactful videos.

Are we ready to rise to the challenge Jarrad has laid before us? Let's harness the power of social media to spread our message far and wide!

A little background on Jarrad: With a First Class Honours degree in Finance from Curtin University and years of experience in the financial sector, he's built a thriving business in Singapore, earning accolades like the Leading Adviser for Pan-Asia in Wealth Building 2023. And let's not forget his philanthropic endeavors, including his involvement with Rotary and his dedication to causes like supporting young people with Cystic Fibrosis.

Jarrad, thank you for inspiring us to reach new heights and for your unwavering commitment to making a difference in the world!

Disclosure: I have known Jarrad since he came to Curtin on a full scholarship in 2005.  He had already become a volunteer to help others live better lives, in this case, young people with Cystic Fibrosis (sadly there are no old people with CF).  He expanded his philanthropic experience by becoming a member of Rotary in 2009, created a very successful fundraiser at the Old Fremantle Jail (Convicts for a Cause) and was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 2011, one the youngest people in WA to ever receive this honour.  The same year he was named a Citizen of the Year in WA.
