President's  Jottings
Ray PHILP
I have been advised by Membership Director Peter McEwen that at tomorrow's meeting we will have 3 inductions.  This is great news and well done to Peter and Kenn for their excellent work in looking after our membership opportunities.  This is a good time to remind members to keep on the lookout for people who want to give back to their communities.  Rotary has flexible membership that would suit anyone interested in joining our club or helping us with projects.  We are also looking for more young people to join the Melville City Rotaract Club.  All you need to do is ascertain a person's interest and pass on their details to Kenn and Peter and they will do the rest!

Club director Logan Duncan-Smith, who is a Sales Executive at ACTON Applecross, was our guest speaker at last Tuesday's breakfast meeting.  Logan took us through how an auction works and the pros and cons of selling by auction. Logan had some excellent examples that helped the meeting understand the process and how the Auction is a good way of understanding what the market values your property at.

This week's FOOTY MARGINS winner was Chris Dawson with the margin being 37 points.  This resulted from a Port Adelaide kick after the siren with Stephen Strange missing out with 43 points before the kick.

This Sunday is the Perth Makers Market which is an important fund raiser for our club.  The parking donations will go towards the MYHOME project.  Click here for the roster for the 10 and 11 April.

Hamish has sent out the Art Exhibition roster and would like confirmation from the members that have been entered into the roster as well as those who can fill in the gaps.  Click here for the current roster sheets and advise Hamish of any additions or changes (email).

The 'Eye Contact Travelling Photographic Exhibition' will be at the AH Bracks Library from Friday 9th April to Tuesday 27th April.  The City of Melville is planning an information session on homelessness and senior women for Thursday 15th April at 6pm to 7pm.  I will advise when we receive the final details.

The Melville and Perth Rotary clubs have organised a Gala Ball at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on Friday 23 April 2021 to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia.

Tickets are available at http://bit.ly/R100Ball

They also have available our very own Centenial Wine Package with funds raised from the wine supplementing the cost of the Gala Ball.

Please consider going on line at: The Melville Rotary Clubs Centenary Ball Fundraiser - WA Cellars and making a purchase.

Applecross Rotary Youth Event a great success
The second Youth Event was held last Wednesday at Winnacott Reserve club rooms with in form Fremantle Dockers player Michael Frederick and past vice captain of the Perth Wildcats basketball team Greg Hire as our guest speakers.  Greg is also founder of 'A Stitch in Time' whose mission is to promote wellbeing through advocacy, education and and social connection for individuals and communities.
Provisional Rotaract Club of Melville City President  Andrew Korol took the opportunity to promote his club to the audience that resulted in some interest for new members.  Also Wei Chong who recently attended the RYLA leadership development program for 18-28 year olds spoke about the camp and his experiences.
There was a good attendance from the Winnacott Eagles colts team with a few of them taking the photo opportunity with Michael.  There was plenty of interaction from the youth with questions for both Greg and Michael.
Youth Director and organiser Logan Duncan-Smith was pleased with his second 'Youth Event' and is passionate about organising more events to engage with youth, young adults and parents to promote the opportunities Rotary offers for leadership development through the likes of Rotaract, RYLA and RYPEN.
Logan was also appreciative of the support he received from club members: Lorri Brazier - catering manager; Kenn Williams and John Kelly - master chefs; Peter McEwen - photographer.

Opportunity to purchase Rotary centenary wine selection
To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia the Rotary Clubs of Perth and Melville have been organizing a Gala Ball at the new Carton Ritz in Perth on 23rd April on behalf of the two districts.

The Tickets are $195.00 each and include a three-course meal and a drinks package.  They have Darren Reid and the Soul City Band as our entertainment and Mr Mark Coughlan is their Master of Ceremonies.

The committee does not see this event as a fund raiser, rather a celebration and acknowledgment of 100 years of Rotary Service in Australia.  The winner of the inaugural Dr Ken Collins AM Award for Excellence in Service to Rotary will be announced at the Gala.

There are still tickets available if you wish to attend. We still have 2 tickets available on the Applecross Rotary table.

Also to help cover some costs of the celebration I would encourage our wine drinkers to purchase some wine with the R100 collectors label.

For the details of the wine click here.
