The second Youth Event was held last Wednesday at Winnacott Reserve club rooms with in form Fremantle Dockers player Michael Frederick and past vice captain of the Perth Wildcats basketball team Greg Hire as our guest speakers. Greg is also founder of 'A Stitch in Time' whose mission is to promote wellbeing through advocacy, education and and social connection for individuals and communities. Provisional Rotaract Club of Melville City President Andrew Korol took the opportunity to promote his club to the audience that resulted in some interest for new members. Also Wei Chong who recently attended the RYLA leadership development program for 18-28 year olds spoke about the camp and his experiences. There was a good attendance from the Winnacott Eagles colts team with a few of them taking the photo opportunity with Michael. There was plenty of interaction from the youth with questions for both Greg and Michael. Youth Director and organiser Logan Duncan-Smith was pleased with his second 'Youth Event' and is passionate about organising more events to engage with youth, young adults and parents to promote the opportunities Rotary offers for leadership development through the likes of Rotaract, RYLA and RYPEN. Logan was also appreciative of the support he received from club members: Lorri Brazier - catering manager; Kenn Williams and John Kelly - master chefs; Peter McEwen - photographer. |
