2026 Rotary Art Show and Sale - more volunteers needed!

If you can assist please contact Hamish.  Setup and packup are important times.  Remember many hands make light work!

Entries are now closed so now we need to promote the exhibition amongst our network of family, friends etc.

Kenn's Musings

Another festival of parking!

What a wonderful late autumn day for the PMM at Heathcote.  Despite the major redevelopment of the lower lands, forcing those setting up to be innovative with the entry/exit ways, and a significant loss of parking places and the lack of volunteers for the afternoon shift, yet once again AxR achieved miracles in parking management for probably the biggest crowd ever to attend a market day.

Coming in from Applecross village, and elsewhere, the road verges were packed out, and unfortunately, this lead to more 'no entry' point signage as our parking areas were fully loaded.

Thank goodness this is our last market until September when the 6 weekly markets return for the spring into summer session.

I will be suggesting that for future markets we establish a club roster system for the hard yards/early starts etc of the storage area set ups, and returns, with all able bodied members to be part of this process. Bottom line would be that if you can't be present then you must nominate someone to take your place.

Two Points -
1. The same OLD, same olds have been carrying this role for years and we need some help with it, given that is the core basis for us making the project the success that it is.
2. Applecross Rotary needs to have more members skilled at what the role involves and give some of our older team a break from the duties.

Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce Awards Evening.

This was held at South of Perth Yacht Club last Thursday evening and was a great success, with over 150 attending the Chamber's prestige event.

Applecross, Melville and Attadale presented an Award for the best business in the Sustainability and Environmental Impact category, and which was won by a Cockburn based business TIDY UP.  They do an outstanding job of keeping as much recyclables out of landfill as possible, working on discarded items and selling through their recycling outlets. We will have them attend a meeting as Guest Speakers as soon as can be fitted in.

The Event also saw the Rotary launch of our Partnership with the MCCC, with Peter McEwen presenting a very well received promotion on the benefits to business of joining with Rotary in our community service work. It certainly helped to open the minds of those attending to the role of Rotary, and we had some fruitful discussions around the topic. Lots more to be done to ensure that we actually make the partnership work, but we are at least underway. Two brochures outlining the partnership are available to help with the Rotary/business alignment. Four attended from Applecross Rotary, three from Melville Rotary and one from Attadale Rotary ... great support for our launch.

Kenn.

Journey Together - Rotary Discount Travel Kenya

Hello Rotary Members,

I’m so excited to share that Mama Respond will be hosting Cultural Safaris through Kenya with a special offer for Rotary Members as thanks for your continued support over the last 6 years.

This 14-day journey showcases all aspects of Kenya -  its people, wildlife, culture, history, food and ways of life, while giving you a curated, firsthand insight into the work Mama Respond does and the communities we serve.

The tour begins on October 2nd in Nairobi, where you’ll feed giraffes, visit the elephant orphanage, dine at the famous Carnivore Restaurant, and meet our partners in Kibera. From there, you’ll visit a tea farm before travelling to our centre and special needs unit (build in conjunction with Rotary), where you’ll share lunch with our Strong Mamas.

Then the safari adventure begins. You’ll spend five nights in Amboseli National Park, experience a hot air balloon safari, and stay in beautiful treetop lodges. The journey concludes in Mombasa with a relaxing coastal retreat.

This experience has been carefully curated and will be personally guided by myself alongside the local Mama Respond team. It will be an unforgettable journey.

As a special  EOFY offer, we are opening this tour to a small group THIS YEAR only. The tour runs from October 2nd–16th, 2026, and we are currently offering discounted launch pricing for Rotary members:

  • Single person: $8,989
  • Couple (shared accommodation): $15,589

This tour has been designed with accessibility and inclusion in mind, and welcomes people of all abilities.

Please feel free to share the flyer and reach out if you would like to know more. I would love to host you in Kenya and share the passion and purpose behind Mama Respond.
