As President Barry was in Canberra discussing our major project AMR Aware, acting President Ray Philp welcomed DG 9465 Wayne Milnes and his wife Suzanne to the meeting, and Acting A/Governor David Porter.

DG Wayne presented PE Ray with a banner acknowledging that Applecross Rotary was one of the top three Clubs in District 9465 in giving to the Rotary Foundation.
PE Ray commended DG Wayne on joining the 9455 District Governor in establishing the Greenbatch Education Foundation with Rotary in WA, which will provide another opportunity for the four Clubs in our cluster to work with the 25+ schools in our area.
The South Perth Burswood Rotary Club is hosting a $25pp special breakfast meeting in the Crown Casino Atrium next Wednesday 16 October, to discuss the Greenbatch Education Foundation, and PE Ray urged all members to look at attending that meeting, in addition to our regular meeting the previous morning of course!
DG Wayne emigrated from the UK in 1966, but it was nearly 40 years later when he joined Rotary, firstly at Safety Bay, then Rockingham. He is a Past President of both Clubs.
He was a banker in his past life, and kept himself fit playing basketball.
The theme of his address was “Rotary Connects the World”, and he proceeded to address this using the four goals of RI President Mark Daniel Maloney:
Increase Rotary’s impact in the world – and mark 9 November as UN Day
Expand the reach of Rotary remembering that we need to engage and retain members, and establish new Clubs.
Increase our engagement, make Clubs more family friendly
Increase our adaptability – to make Rotary more attractive to potential members.
DG Wayne said we must work at getting Rotary better known in the community, and we should aim to be as well known as McDonalds, given Rotarians give over $1 billion dollars a year of support to local and international projects.
Applecross Rotary in conjunction with Attadale and Booragoon Rotary would like to invite you – and others in your network –
to attend the inaugural Meet and Greet BBQ and Rotaract Information Session to form the Melville City Rotaract Club on
DATE: October 13, 2019 (Sunday)
TIME: from 4 PM to 6PM
LOCATION: Karoonda reserve Hall Karoonda Road Rd (Booragoon)
WHO CAN JOIN ROTARACT?
Rotaract is designed for students and professionals aged between 18-30 years old. It’s suited to anyone with an appetite to create positive change within their local community and further afield, as well as those interested in gaining leadership experience and wishing to have fun in the process.
Helen Jones reminded members that the meeting next Tuesday morning will be a little longer than normal so we can learn how to save someone’s life using the Defibrillator.
Logan Duncan-Smith invited members to join him, Tom Atkinson and SureshPrabhakaran at Karoonda Reserve Hall on Sunday afternoon for a Rotaract BBQ.
Lorri Brazier sent a message to members concerned about our Past President Lesley Combes. Lesley is still in Intensive Care at the Mount Hospital as she slowly recovers from major cardiac surgery. (Helen Jones and Ian Fairnie can report that Lesley is in Room 332 on the 3rd floor of the Mount, and when visited on Thursday was sitting in a wheelchair by the window. She is still heavily medicated and cannot carry on much conversation). Lorri has also been keeping tabs on Ray Wales, and reports him to be in good spirits, most of the time.
HAPPY DOLLARS
Logan won the wine thanks to John Hosking’s tossing.
Ray Philp celebrates his Rotary anniversary this week, Chris Dawson became a grandfather (again), and Tom Atkinson announced he is going to be a father (again).

Around this time last year, Ray Philp participated in South Bunbury Rotary's inaugural Dirt n Dust car rally. Over 20K was raised with funds going to Bunbury's Doors Wide Open and Australian Rotary Health (ARH).
The Dirt n Dust 2019 is set to take-off on October 23rd with Australian Rotary Health and Doors Wide Open again the beneficiaries from the funds raised.
This year two mates of Ray's son have entered and thinking out side the box have set-up a crowd funding page with a letter of endorsement from ARH. They have raised nearly $10K!!
The two mates are Tristan Rees and Gerard Ilich, both who with their families live in the City of Melville. Potential Rotary members??
