Applecross Rotary Jacaranda Festival

Lorri Brazier and Liz Palmer enjoying a rewarding drink after the Rotary Jacaranda Festival
A very proud moment as President to see the successful completion of the 2020 Applecross Rotary Jacaranda Festival.  We all know the significant challenges that the COVID 19 pandemic caused in getting approval to hold the event. It would have been easy to cancel the event around July, however the planning continued to give us every chance to make the decision as late as possible.  AND IT WORKED!

A huge shout out to Kenn Williams and his committee for pushing on with the arrangements, even though with each announcement by the state government  leading up to the event indicating we would have difficulty getting approval.  Through the hard work and persistance of Chris Whelan and Kenn, as well as the CAN DO support we received from the City of Melville staff  resulted in a COVID Event Plan being approved allowing the festival to proceed.

The reward for all the hard work leading up to and including on the day was that we were able to run a fabulous community event showcasing the City of Melville and the Applecross Village precinct to people across Perth; stallholders were able to trade following a very tough year for them; community groups were able to raise much needed funds; and importantly our club will have our major source of funds to support our Rotary programmes and local community activities.

Christmas Lunch

Looking forward to our Xmas Lunch this Sunday 6th December at the Vineyard Kitchen at Brookfield Winery.  For those of us taking the bus it will be leaving at 11am from the Garden City car Park off Davy Street.

Tomorrow's Guest Speaker - Wayne Smith

Wayne is a Co- Founder of Give a Feed and current Give A Feed  Ambassador.  As a member of  Heirisson Rotary in 2012 he used his business acumen and professional skills to start www.helpfeed1000.com.au.  His idea was to raise enough money to donate 1000 Foodbank Christmas hampers to 1000 families, and it worked.  Later this changed to www.giveafeed.com.au.
Wayne until recently was the Dealer Principal of City Toyota which has become one of the most successful Toyota Dealerships in Australia.  Wayne was awarded the President's Award, which is the highest individual accolade awarded by Toyota Australia.

Rotary Centennial Ball

Following an email sent around asking for members interested in joining a table of Applecross Rotarians, we have 4 couples who have responded that they would like to attend. Please let me know by tomorrow as the tables are selling fast.  The full details of the event, as well as the Joint District Conference are in this AA.

Recycling and cashing in your containers

Tomorrow is the first Tuesday of the month and our trailer with the Greenbatch bins will be in the car park.  Bring along your Containers For Change and your Type 1 and Type 2 plastics for recycling by the Greenbatch Foundation.  If you have your own collection number you can still cash them in through Greenbatch.  You will get the 10c and Greenbatch will get an additional 6c as a Container Refund Point or donate your containers to Applecross Rotary.  Our number is C10240570.

We will have the Foodbank boxes at tomorrow's meeting for any your donations

And finally a big thank you to two of our Honorary Members - Dean Nalder, who opened his office for our use all day and then hosted drinks after Ardross St was back to normal; and Ben Morton for allowing his staff to provide free photocopying for literally thousands of copies of coloured maps and forms.
Message from DG Colin Burns
It is with great pleasure to announce to all Rotarians in District 9465 that the 2021 District Conference, which will be held in conjunction with District 9455 has been locked in for March 5th to 7th and will be held at OPTUS STADIUM. With the difficulties we have all faced in 2020, this Joint District Conference is a massive opportunity to celebrate not just the past 100 years of Rotary…..but the many years ahead. More information and the release of early bird tickets are available at:

Whilst we have an amazing Conference Program being developed and some truly inspirational speakers lined up - we need your support to make this event a big success. Get your tickets early and make sure you pass this opportunity on to friends and family (this year’s Conference has been designed to appeal to all).

The opportunity to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia in 'the world's most beautiful stadium' and enjoying the unique experiences the Stadium has to offer, is definitely an opportunity not to be missed. Make sure you get your tickets asap at the Early Bird rate.

R100 Centennial Ball | Puttin on The Ritz - 20's Style | Friday 23 April 2021

The Rotary Club of Perth and the Rotary Club of Melville on behalf District 9455 and District 9465 have joined together to create an event in Western Australia that celebrates the First 100 Years of Service of Rotary in Australia – The Centennial Gala Ball.

The Theme is “Puttin on the Ritz” and we look forward to a large contingent of Rotarians at this event.  As this is a Western Australia wide event, and numbers are limited, we urge you to book your tickets asap via the try booking link below.

It’s a special time in the history of Rotary in Australia and NZ as we celebrate the First 100 years of Service in 2021.

In 1921, four Rotary Clubs were created in Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington and Sydney.  From there, Rotary and Rotaract clubs were created everywhere across Australia and NZ with the Perth Rotary Club being the first club to charter in Western Australia on 15 April 1927.

As Australians, we all share a centenary in 2021 and therefore it is fitting that we should all come together and celebrate the common legacy that we as Rotarians leave behind. Think about the impact we have made in this State and this Country!  Let’s shout out loud and celebrate!

There are limited tickets available for this premier celebration of Rotary in WA.  Therefore, I urge you to get in contact with your fellow club members, organise your table and book online as soon as possible, otherwise I fear you will miss out.

Tickets are available at http://bit.ly/R100Ball
