Applecross Rotary Jacaranda Festival
Lorri Brazier and Liz Palmer enjoying a rewarding drink after the Rotary Jacaranda Festival
A very proud moment as President to see the successful completion of the 2020 Applecross Rotary Jacaranda Festival. We all know the significant challenges that the COVID 19 pandemic caused in getting approval to hold the event. It would have been easy to cancel the event around July, however the planning continued to give us every chance to make the decision as late as possible. AND IT WORKED!
A huge shout out to Kenn Williams and his committee for pushing on with the arrangements, even though with each announcement by the state government leading up to the event indicating we would have difficulty getting approval. Through the hard work and persistance of Chris Whelan and Kenn, as well as the CAN DO support we received from the City of Melville staff resulted in a COVID Event Plan being approved allowing the festival to proceed.
The reward for all the hard work leading up to and including on the day was that we were able to run a fabulous community event showcasing the City of Melville and the Applecross Village precinct to people across Perth; stallholders were able to trade following a very tough year for them; community groups were able to raise much needed funds; and importantly our club will have our major source of funds to support our Rotary programmes and local community activities.
Christmas Lunch
Looking forward to our Xmas Lunch this Sunday 6th December at the Vineyard Kitchen at Brookfield Winery. For those of us taking the bus it will be leaving at 11am from the Garden City car Park off Davy Street.
Tomorrow's Guest Speaker - Wayne Smith
Wayne is a Co- Founder of
Give a Feed and current Give A Feed Ambassador. As a member of Heirisson Rotary in 2012 he used his business acumen and professional skills to start www.helpfeed1000.com.au. His idea was to raise enough money to donate 1000 Foodbank Christmas hampers to 1000 families, and it worked. Later this changed to www.giveafeed.com.au.
Wayne until recently was the Dealer Principal of City Toyota which has become one of the most successful Toyota Dealerships in Australia. Wayne was awarded the President's Award, which is the highest individual accolade awarded by Toyota Australia.
Rotary Centennial Ball
Following an email sent around asking for members interested in joining a table of Applecross Rotarians, we have 4 couples who have responded that they would like to attend. Please let me know by tomorrow as the tables are selling fast. The full details of the event, as well as the Joint District Conference are in this AA.
Recycling and cashing in your containers
Tomorrow is the first Tuesday of the month and our trailer with the Greenbatch bins will be in the car park. Bring along your Containers For Change and your Type 1 and Type 2 plastics for recycling by the Greenbatch Foundation. If you have your own collection number you can still cash them in through Greenbatch. You will get the 10c and Greenbatch will get an additional 6c as a Container Refund Point or donate your containers to Applecross Rotary. Our number is C10240570.
We will have the Foodbank boxes at tomorrow's meeting for any your donations
And finally a big thank you to two of our Honorary Members - Dean Nalder, who opened his office for our use all day and then hosted drinks after Ardross St was back to normal; and Ben Morton for allowing his staff to provide free photocopying for literally thousands of copies of coloured maps and forms.
